Heineken’s new beer ad isn’t what we have come to expect from beer ads, there are no talking frogs, loud music and unfortunately, no Neil Patrick Harris hypnotizing you with a beer bottle. Instead the company went the complete opposite direction and got political, but did it in a much more tactful way than Pepsi (sorry Pepsi). Heineken is calling it their “World’s Apart Experiment” where they see if two strangers with opposing views prove that there’s more that unites than divides us? And quite frankly it is brilliant.
People of different viewpoints on topics such as transgender, global warming, and feminism meet and interact before realizing they hold completely opposite views on these polarizing topics. The individuals are then given the choice to leave or talk about their different opinions over a beer.
I wanted to highlight the commercial because I think it is great and think that maybe the world would be a better place if we could all see what we have in common with each other rather that our differences first. And then just sit down and hash out those differences over a nice brew. I don’t want to get to political on here, but next time you disagree with someone maybe just ask them to grab a cold one instead. Cheers!
