Beer Review: Ommegang Tripel Perfection

20150916_225027Name: Ommegang Tripel Perfection
Style: Tripel

IBU: 30

ABV: 8.9%

“Ommegang’s brewers spent several years refining their ideas of what a “perfect” tripel would be. In the original style, a Belgian tripel is a golden ale, from 8.5% to 10% ABV, with fruity flavors and aromas coming from the yeast. Tripels are simply brewed, but with great attention to detail. Ommegang Tripel Perfection goes beyond the exquisite attention to detail and adds spices to subtly enhance aromas and flavors. The result is a fine ale honoring Belgian brewing tradition, while also expanding on it in the new Ommegang tradition.”

I visited Ommegang Brewery over the weekend, so I figured why not grab a bottle and review of one of their limited availability beers. The beer I chose was one of their historic beers, Tripel Perfection, a Belgian Style Golden Tripel. The beer is brewed in a traditional manner and bottle conditioned. On to the beer!

The beer pours a beautiful gold with a 3/4 inch of white head that slides down the glass. The nose gives off scents of booze, lemon, coriander, and Belgian Yeasts. The taste is wonderful with sweet malts, delicious Belgian yeasts and hints of citrus on the end. You can’t tell from the color, but the beer is a medium bodied, high carbonation beer with nice dry finish. Overall it is a phenomenal beer and one of the best tripels I have ever had. The signature Ommegang sweet malts and tasty Belgian yeasts really make it a special beer. I definitely recommend this beer to anyone who loves Belgian beers. It is limited availability, so it is harder to get than some of their other beers. But it should be available in most stores who carry Ommegang in 750ml bottles. Let me know what you think of it and enjoy.
